Quality schemes

Several Regulations exist on the application of quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs.

The aim of the EU's quality policy is to promote the names of specific products for their unique characteristics related to their geographical origin and traditional knowledge. There are also quality schemes that emphasise the traditional production process or products made in difficult natural areas, with natural constraints, such as mountains or islands.

As from 1 January 2013 a new Regulation on quality systems for agricultural products and foodstuffs entered into force:
